Our History
From its onset, Fellowship of Joy has been graced with an unusual amount of favor that can only be attributed to the providential workings of a sovereign and extravagantly loving God. We began meeting in a living room in Mansfield, TX with twelve people in December of 2002. Participation increased to over sixty persons within the next several weeks. We began meeting on Sunday evenings at the Mansfield Activities Center in February 2003.
On Easter Sunday of 2003, our fellowship began congregating at the Donna Shepherd Intermediate School in Mansfield, TX on Sunday morning. For the next eighteen months, we met at this location and grew to over two hundred and fifty people and had to begin two worship services due to the increase in attendees.
In the fall of 2005, the Elders presented the congregation with a plan to move the meeting location to Arlington, TX. Hillcrest Baptist Church merged with us and signed over its assets and liabilities (including 45,000 square feet of building space and 5.5 acres of land) at Park Row and Sherry. This was the beginning of a wider scope of ministry that was becoming more multicultural with respect to race, ethnicity and class. We began to do a lot of community outreach, focusing especially on gang members and students. God was transforming the lives of many through the power of the gospel.
In November of 2006, the Elders once again proposed another plan to move to our current meeting location, which is in Grand Prairie, TX. Evangel Temple Assembly of God merged with us. The assets and liabilities (including 65,000 square feet of buildings and 15 acres of land) were part of the merger. The Grand Prairie location has supported our dream of becoming more multicultural in every way. With a delightful mix of Hispanic, Caucasian, African-American, African and Asian voices worshipping God together each Sunday, we are fast-approaching the accomplishment of our goal to be “Grand Prairie’s International Church.” We will celebrate our eighth anniversary on Easter of 2012, and we hope that you will be able to experience this joyous occasion with us!
WHAT IS OUR PURPOSE?
The Fellowship Of Joy exists to glorify God by exalting the Savior, edifying the believer, evangelizing the lost, and engaging the culture in accordance with the Word of God.
